INTERNATIONAL EARTH DAY

“The Earth is what we all have in common.”
Wendell Berry

Let’s celebrate the International Earth Day by thinking on how we can contribute to safeguarding and preserving our Earth!

Here you have our decalogue for sustainability actions we can do while in outdoor: check them all!

How many of them you are just used to do?

RESOLE YOUR BOOTS

Before throwing away your clothing, sew or patch them and resole your boots, for your safety on the trails and for avoiding a new purchase before any trekking.

We make the resoling service in our Italian headquarter and you can make the request directly online:

HIKE NEARBY YOU

We all want to explore the world but we often don’t even know what surrounds us. When deciding your next adventure, before planning long-distance travels, consider to hike nearby. Reduce plane or long travels by car and, if possible, use train or some ecological solutions for your trip.

OPT FOR REUSABLE CONTAINERS

When you pack for your adventure, use re-usable and washable bags and containers to organize your stuff. While outside, you will be able to better find out what are you looking for inside the backpack and, once at home, you will better unpack.

MAKE A SUSTAINABLE FOOD CHOICE

For a day hiking, opt for a lunch at the refuge, in order to favor the local food production and sustain the local economy or minimize packaged food by preparing it by your own with seasonal products. For backpacking, use re-usable containers as much as possible and aluminum or recycled packaging for the food you will put in your backpack.

WATER IN SUSTAINABLE BOTTLES

Avoid disposable plastic bottles for water and soft drinks and opt for aluminum or re-usable plastic bottles for water or thermos for your hot and cold drinks. Tap water from home or, if outside, the from the springs or in fountains along the way are the best sustainable choice.

DO NOT DISTURB THE ANIMALS

If you meet an animal (whether wolfs, bears, foxes, squirrels, so on) during the hike, pay attention to not shot out or run away: maintain a security distance and keep calm, don’t face it directly. Remind that if you don’t annoy or encourage it to react, you may not be hurt you at all.

DO NOT LIGHT FIRES

Do not light any kind of fires in the wood without reasons, except in the equipped areas, as you can develop devastating fires. Pay also attention to not throw on the ground cigarette butts.

DO NOT MAKE LOUD NOISE

Avoid making disturbing noises to respect the environment, to not attract or scare the animals and to prevent the creation of avalanches. Don’t go into the winter refuges of the wildlife, as well.

DO NOT PICK UP FLOWERS

Do not pick up flowers while walking but just look at them or take a picture! If all of us would collect flowers, their presence will be reduced and the whole ecosystem will be damaged.

DO NOT LEAVE TRACES

Do not disperse your waste in the environment; always bring with you a bag to collect all your garbage and, once at home, throw them away and recycle them. Collect the organic waste, as well; even if they will decompose in some years or months, the organic remained in the wood, may also attract the wildlife.
